Soup Salon features Alfred Hitchcock

Dubbed the Master of Suspense, critically acclaimed director Alfred Hitchcock will be the subject of our Soup Salon’s guest speaker, Dr. Caitlin Benson-Allott, on March 10.  Dr. Benson-Allott, professor of English and Film & Media Studies at Georgetown University, focuses on film and television history and theory.  Her talk will highlight how Hitchcock embraced TV when most film studios and film makers eschewed it to develop his brand as auteur.  Besides suspense, Hitchcock was also a master of comedy, romance and horror; audiences flocked to his films for six decades.  “Give them pleasure. The same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare,” he once famously remarked. Among his highest ranked films: “The Birds,” “Strangers on a Train,” “Rear Window,” “Psycho,” and “Vertigo.” Join us for an evening where, in the master’s own words, “the price of the dinner, the theatre admission, and the babysitter…will be worth it.”

Contributions of soup, wine and dessert are welcome but not necessary to attend
Please let the hosts know if you are bringing something.
